Everyone is talking about Profhilo® and the results that this technology can achieve. It has become a game changer in the treatment of sun damaged and aged skin. People have been achieving incredible results particularly on the lower face and neck. It plumps, hydrates and improves the skin quality by stimulating the production of the skin’s natural proteins collagen and elastin and fat cells (adipocytes).
Profhilo® is not a filler. It is a hydrator containing Hyaluronic Acid (a substance that is naturally occurring throughout the body that is responsible for maintaining moisture in the skin). It has been shown to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and is an ideal treatment for people who would like more plump and illuminous looking skin.
The Profhilo® is injected just below the skin’s surface. When starting Profhilo® two treatment sessions are required 4 weeks apart. The Profhilo® quickly disperses and improvement in skin texture, hydration and fine lines can be seen about two weeks later. At 4 weeks a second treatment is given and improvements are visible at this stage, but maximal results are seen at 8 weeks after the first treatment. To maintain these results a treatment top up is recommended every 3 to 4 months.
Is Profhilo® for me?
After your 30th birthday you start to lose collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid from your skin. This is one of the reasons the skin starts to look aged, dull and fine lines and wrinkles form.
Profhilo® is for you if you want to improve the overall appearance of your skin and is advised from the age of 30 onwards. Younger skin treated with Profhilo® can achieve a super smooth airbrushed quality but there is no upper age limit and some older patients 60+ can get some lovely results. If your skin is sagging and areas of your face have lost significant volume dermal fillers might be a more appropriate treatment to restore this. Dermal fillers can be used in combination with Profhilo® and this combined approach can achieve some excellent results.
What areas can Profhilo® treat?
Profhilo is most commonly used on the face and neck where it is especially good at improving the lines around the eyes and mouth and tightening the skin of the neck.
It can also be used to improve the appearance of aging in the décolletage, hands and upper arms. How long will the effects last?
How long the effects last is variable. It is dependent on your skin type, quality and degree of aging. People return for treatment from 4 to 12 months. To maintain the best results a top up is recommended every 3 to 4 months.
Following the procedure, you can return to normal activities with minimal downtime. Clients are advised not to wear makeup, have any other facial treatments or do rigorous exercise for 24 hours.
